Summer Prayer Gathering 2023

Older institutional churches in Scotland are generally declining. We find ourselves increasingly irrelevant and marginalised in society.

The Kirk herself is going through a significant crisis of resources. We can no longer afford or staff our historic structures or practices.

In this context, ministers and other church leaders are often stressed and demoralised. Many congregations are also angry or deflated by the institutional response.

But we still believe that the Gospel is the most important message in the world; Jesus holds the words of eternal life. And we are confident that God is still working throughout our land. Therefore, we have hope despite our circumstances.

How do we proceed? How do we remain faithful amidst confusion, disorientation and pain? What is the Spirit saying? Where is the Lord leading? How do we recover and display the joy of our salvation? How do we build for the future?

Cosen does not have the answers, but we want to seek God’s presence, guidance and support. This year’s summer prayer gathering is an opportunity to do that together.

We hope that this gathering, no matter how small and insignificant, can be a catalyst for spiritual renewal in the Kirk and beyond.
